Sample Producer: Audio Angelorum
Sample Set: Peterborough Cathedral Hill
Software: Hauptwerk V
Genre: Romantic
Description:
Alexander Schreiner (1901-1987) was born in Nuremberg, Germany and emigrated to Utah in 1912 after his family joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
In 1924, Schreiner left for Paris and began studies with Henri Libert, Louis Vierne and Charles-Marie Widor. He subsequently returned to Utah and was appointed organist at the Mormon Tabernacle in 1938, a post he held until his retirement in 1977.
He was responsible for the acquisition and collaborated with G. Donald Harrison in the design of the 1948 Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ (Opus 1075) installed in the Tabernacle.
The piece recorded here is a lovely miniature for manuals alone which Schreiner composed as part of a collection for church organists. The velvety diapasons of the Hill organ at Peterborough are a perfect vehicle for Schreiner's music.
