Matthew Kennedy (b. 1987) — Miniature for One No. 54 (2020) for organ
When the period of home quarantine for coronavirus pandemic began in mid-March 2020, Matthew Kennedy began composing miniature solo pieces for friends and colleagues. Book 1 (miniatures 1–50) were inspired by the place that each person lived and their favorite dessert. Book 2 (miniatures 51–100) are inspired by the place each person lived and their favorite beverage. Book 3 (miniatures 101–150) are inspired by the place each person lived and their favorite animal. Each piece is scored for a different solo instrument (or voice). #54 is for organist Jim Roman of Houston, Texas whose beverage choice is an Arnold Palmer.
American composer Matthew Kennedy (b. 1987) was educated at Anderson University, Butler University, and the Hartt School. His music has been performed and commissioned by numerous ensembles and musicians and his work as a music engraver (specializing in graphic notation) has received national recognition. Kennedy teaches music theory and composition at the University of South Florida.
