A little while back I came across a recording of this song by Sarah Vaughan. Hmmm, quite a simple song for a jazz virtuoso like Sassy to choose. So I listened and the penny dropped - this was nothing to do with jazz improv, it was simple a vehicle to show off one of the finest voices in the world without distraction.
So, here is my version on the Paramount 450 virtual organ. Written in 1961 as "Et Maintenant" by composer Gilbert Bécaud and lyricist Pierre Delanoë in a Bolero style, the song gained popularity in the 70s with its English lyrics by Carl Sigman.
Here the whole of the organ is shown, starting with dulcianas and the diminutive French Horn and ending close to full organ with all 8 ranks of brass on display above the 32' bombardes. Building up a crescendo on this instrument is just like climbing a mountain. Each time you think you must be at the top, you cross a ridge and see that there is still further to go !
