Hymns to Help Us Through - Day 19 - “Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me”...

Good Friday morning, friends!! (Hurray! The camera is working again!) When I asked my parishioners, a few years ago, to share some of their favorite hymns with me, this one popped up. I *thought* I knew it...until I included it for Mass one Sunday. What solid theology!! This is the kind of stuff we can hold onto in these turbulent times!

Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in thee;
let the water and the blood, from thy wounded side which flowed,
be of sin the double cure; save from wrath and make me pure.

Not the labors of my hands can fulfill thy law’s demands;
could my zeal no respite know, could my tears for ever flow,
all for sin could not atone; thou must save, and thou alone.
