In the series of spurious works by (or not) Johann Sebastian Bach, I skip two compositions for now (BWV Anh. II 62a and 62b) to reach three choral preludes to the Christmas choral "Vom Himmel hoch da komm ich her". The first of these three is the most simple and short. It is a more or less four part fugato on the first phrase of the choral melody. Only on the last five bars it is really in four part writing, as in the first 16 bars only three voices sound at the same time. The counterpoint is at best clumsy. It feels more like a composition of Johann Christian Kittel then a genuine Bach work. Though not a very inmpressive work, it can come in handy as a short intro or interludium.
