As manuscript Ms. Lynar B3 is believed to be compiled in the circle of students of Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, it is to be expected that some works of the master himself are contained in the manuscript as well. Sweelinck's Fantasia C2 is one of them. It is one of the largest pieces in the manuscript. That large scale compositions like this Fantasia and much shorter praeludia are mixed in this manuscript is intruiging. Perhaps these larger works served as a model for the scribe for his own compositional studies?
I'm always a bit out of my depth in playing Sweelinck. His Fantasias are terribly long, and to my ears (sorry...) a bit boring and I don't know how to play them well and to make them sound interestingly. That is of course my own deficiency and not Sweelinck's. Though it is interesting to note that this piece has not been uploaded before on the concert hall. So I'm perhaps not the only one having trouble with this piece?
