Today I wanted to show of the orchestral vibraharp of this new instrument, and there could be only one piece to do it - "Says My Heart" - by Frank Loesser and Burton Lane, written 1938.
I have a strong attachment to this piece, which I haven’t played for years.
This was the very first thing I heard live on a big theatre organ in the US.
ATOS 1991, Oakland Paramount, Jim Riggs. What we thought was canned muzak as we all filled the theatre was in fact Jim playing on flutes and Chrysoglott.
As he was announced, nothing changed in the music and the lift arose making it obvious who was playing.
After a spell on the orchestral vibraharp and colour reeds, the walls just opened and we were hit in the face with that sound - BAM!
An experience I will never forget.
So with apologies to Mr Riggs, here is my version.
