Description:
Andrés de Sola (1634–1696)

It is believed that Sola began his music studies with his uncle Melchor Ximénez, organist in the church of Santa María de Tudela (Navarra), his city of birth.

In 1652 he is heard of in Zaragoza, where he probably remained with his uncle Jimepe Ximénez, famous principal organist of La Seo de Zaragoza at the time. It seems that he was in charge of the tuning and conservation of the organ and that he received a salary for his work. The influence of his uncle allowed him, after being ordained a priest in 1644, to become a second organist and, after the death of his uncle in 1672, a principal organist.

During his life he received numerous offers from other cathedrals that he rejected, among them the one from Oviedo, which he considered the most appropriate of those in Spain.

He died in 1696 while playing at the Holy Saturday mass, reclining his head on the keyboard.

This Tiento in the fourth mode has as undertitle:
On a Tiento de Falsas de Aguilera

Sebastian Aguilera de Heredia (1561 – 1627) was a Spanish monk, musician and composer. He was first the organist at the cathedral in Huesca from 1585 to 1603, and then moved to a more prestigious position as maestro de música at La Seo Cathedral in Saragossa.
He published a collection of works in 1618, and eighteen of his keyboard works survive.

He is considered the first major figure of the Aragonese School of music centered on Saragossa.
