One of Bach's most beautiful and heartfelt Chorale Preludes, I think this really comes to life on the tender tones of Krzeszow in a way that is very different from the 'anti-romantic' view of Bach that has been fashionable in the later 20th century.
In this piece you can hear some of the beautiful and unusual sounds of this organ which has been delighting me since Christmas.
The melody is Oberwerk Principal and Vox Humana - an undulating stop not a reed, and I think from my experiments probably intended as a solo stop, perhaps for this very kind of movement. Left hand is the Hauptwerk Gamba and Bourdon 16' played up an octave. Pedal is the Violonbass 16' - one of TWO 'Cello like strings available in the pedal, and so much more interesting than the usual big boom/little boom choice!
