Sven Linell (1936–2012) — Folkvisa (Ballad) (1972) for organ
Swedish composer and church musician Sven Linell (1936–2012) was born in Mariestad and grew up in Alingsås, near Gothenburg. He began playing the piano and violin as a child and also studied organ with the local organist. For many years, he intended to become a concert pianist, but instead decided to become a church musician and pursued studies in organ and composition at the University of Gothenburg. Linell’s career as an organist started in the village of Gislaved
for a few years, then in the city of Halmstad, and finally in Partille, a district of Gothenburg, where he worked for 18 years until his retirement. Besides his church work, Linell was also a very fine jazz pianist.
