Dieterich Buxtehude (c. 1637/39 – 1707) was a Danish-German organist and composer of the Baroque period.
His organ works represent a central part of the standard organ repertoire and are frequently performed at recitals and in church services.
He composed in a wide variety of vocal and instrumental idioms, and his style strongly influenced many composers, including Johann Sebastian Bach.
Today, Buxtehude is considered one of the most important composers in Germany of the mid-Baroque.
He wrote many choral preludes and there are quite a few favourites, that are often played.
This is the last one of my small series and it is not unknown as promised at all. I uploaded it some time ago on Steinkirchen.
Stumbling on it in the Hedar edition I had quite forgotten playing and uploading it before.
So here it is again, this time on the "wrong" organ (if you can call a magnifcent instrument "wrong" for just having another color palette) at Arlesheim.
The magnificent reeds and fierce cornet made playing it again quite a feast.
