Jan Welmers was born in 1937 in Zuidlaren, Netherlands. He studied organ with Wim van Beek and Cor Kee and composition with Kees van Baaren. Jan Welmers was organist at Nijmegen and teacher of organ and organ improvistion at Utrecht Conservatory. He is especially known as composer of minimal music for organ, e.g. Litanie.
