| Description: | Johann Ernst Rembt, (b Suhl, 26 Aug 1749; d Suhl, 26 Feb 1810), organist, composer.
Studied under J.P. Kellner and from 1768 toured in France as an organ virtuoso in the tradition of Bach. Between 1787 and 1797 he wrote five volumes of compositions for the organ, mainly aimed at practical ends - a method of organ playing, fughettas and chorale preludes. As a performer he specialized in Bach's music, but he also collected and performed earlier organ music. He was the organist in Suhl from 1772 until his death. |
