She only speaks through smiles – Day 20

From the Waterways series:

“That one can’t communicate” that assisted living attendant told me. “Not at all?” I asked. “Well, sometimes she smiles, but that’s all she can do, and I ain’t seen her do it in a long, long time,” was the answer. And while I blessed her, and made the sign of the cross upon her forehead, and spoke her name, she did, for a moment, favor me with a smile, and that… was more than enough.
