| Description: | Louis Marchand (Lyon, February 2, 1669 - Paris, February 17, 1732) was a French organist and composer.
Knight of the Order of St. Michael, organist of the king at Versailles and several churches in Paris. Well-known in life, he moved to Dresden where he gave a confrontation with the then court organist in Weimar, Johann Sebastian Bach. Needless to say who won. Back in Paris was a period of extraordinary celebrity and wealth. Because of its bizarre character, he died in extreme poverty in 1732. |
