Composer: Seixas, Carlos
Sample Producer: Sonus Paradisi
Sample Set: Laurenskerk - Transept Organ - 1959 Marcussen & Son
Software: Hauptwerk IV
Genre: Baroque
Description:
Carlos Seixas was the best early XVIII century portuguese composer (1704-1742). Original score was written for harpsichord and orchestra; genre: solo-concert, in 3 movements (I.Allegro, II.Adagio, III.Giga). It was the only concert Seixas did (or the only one that survived? maybe scores were lost in the *big* earthquake that hit Lisbon in 1775). Carlos Seixas was organist at Lisbon's cathedral, but his keyboard writing is clearly thought for the harpsichord, not organ (one could say that an old tradition of "iberic" organ music (tentos, batalhas, etc.) was put aside when the XVIII arrived).
Current recording is a transcription/arrangement for modern organ (2 keyboards and pedal), written by myself (Antonio Mota, December 2015).
Note: I did some "re-thinking" of the original score ("upgrade" to 4/5 voices from original 3, occasional changes in the bass line, etc.); but the only "drastic" things are found in the second movement: not so the 2 extra counterpoint lines and ornamentation but (towards the end): a modern cadenza in the octatonic scale... (original score has no written cadenza, only the usual mark asking for its improvisation). So... you've been warned!! :)
