Description: | The inspiration for this brief musical vignette came from a line of "unintentional poetry" penned by composer Deeann Mathews:
November 28 in San Francisco... Summer and winter still flirting madly, with roses reblooming and warm sunshine... but cool caresses of wind at every turn...
- - - - - - -
I was honored to be allowed to "borrow" this for the purpose of "riffing off of it" - Honored particularly because Ms. Matthews is an excellent composer (her music is very different than mine!)
My thought process:
In November, even in 'Frisco, Summer is an old ghost, while Winter is still waiting to be born. So Summer sings an old sad melody, while Winter is energetic, but irresolute. Truth be told they are both out of their time, but then Seasons are a cycle, and we can only know one by the birth and death of another. So the question, represented by the recurrent three note motive - Is Winter still found deep within the soul of Summer... or Autumn or Spring for that matter; and for we mortals, are our deepest enemies as well as our closet friends found not only outside of us, but deep within our souls? |
