Seems like I have a faible for picking up songs, which I do not know the names of... After some digging, I found out that this piece is a French Christmas carol also known in the Angloamerican culture and Germany (with differing titles), but only the first half of each verse -- I know that the second half also is part of a hymn, but did not yet find out the name.
I'd be glad if someone could give me a hint... The combination of these two parts seems natural to me in a musical way, but now that I know that it's neither the full first nor the full second piece, it has something itchy to my brain... ;)
For those who own a 7.1 surround system, an 8-channel FLAC file can be picked up here to get an impression of what it will sound like in my living room:

- Player: Current versions of Media Player Classic are able to properly play multi-channel FLAC files.
