Albert Renaud (1855-1924) is mainly known for this toccata (dedicated to Guilmant) and for having been the predecessor of Albert Alain at the great organ of St Germain-en-Laye, near Paris (Albert Alain himself being mainly known as Jehan and Marie-Claire Alain’s father).
This toccata, less well known and played then Gigout’s etc… alternates a motorik theme and a lyrical theme. I tried to find a basic tempo allowing both the motorik theme to be motorik enough and the lyrical theme to sing enough.
