Transcribing by ear and improvising on great movie scores for the organ is something that's always an excitement to me -- there are so many fragments of pieces and nuances in accentuation that one can work on and play around with. And yes, it's pretty much fun to explore as many of them as possible...
One of my favourite movie soundtracks is the one from "The Lord of the Rings", composed by Howard Shore. Twelve hours of an epic adventure and three movies, each with a different musical main theme but also with a central theme that is present in all the movies as well -- WOW, that really *is* something that deserves a bit of every serious musician's attention... Marco Lo Muscio's "Visions from Minas Tirith" at

One of the most emotionally overwhelming scenes IMO was the coronation scene, whereafter the complete crowd kneed before the four Hobbits. That's the scene where my impro starts. It then takes a virtual trip around the city of Minas Tirith, with all the casualties, smoke and destruction from the previous battle still being present. Neverless, there are moments of hope and the former glamour within reach that are shining through occasionally, which are meant as a hint to the past and future glory of Minas Tirith. But no glory can be achieved without making sacrifices...
For those who own a 7.1 surround system, an 8-channel FLAC file can be picked up here to get an impression of what it will sound like in my living room:
