Description: | This is my 20th (for Tuesday) upload in the Lenten Hymn-of-the-Day Project.
THANKS to ALL you have uploading hymns! :-)
Today's text is by Isaac Williams (1802-1865) and the simple, soothing music is by William Henry Monk (1823-1889), an important musician, who not only wrote many well-known hymns, but was a liturgical "innovator" who introduced many refinements, such as the use of plainsong, and "liturgically appropriate hymns and anthems" into the Anglican service.
This hymn has a "litany-like" feel to it.
ONE ENTIRE VERSE of the INTRODUCTION.
Lord, in this thy mercy's day,
Ere it pass for ay away,
On our knees we fall and pray.
Lord, on us they Spirit pour,
Kneeling lowly at the door,
Lest it close for evermore.
By thy night of agony,
By thy supplicating cry,
By thy willingness to die.
By thy tears of bitter woe,
For Jerusalem below,
Let us not thy love forgo.
Grant us 'neath thy wings a place,
Lest we lose the day of grace,
Ere we shall behold thy face. |
