Slovak composer Jozef Podprocký (1944–2021) was educated at the Conservatory in Košice and the Academy of the Performing Arts (Bratislava). For 44 years (1969–2013) he taught music theory and composition at the Conservatory in Košice and from 1986–88 was also music director of the Košice State Philharmonic. As a composer, he has received the Ján Levoslav Bella Prize, The Hemerka Foundation Prize, and the 2003 Music Critics Award. He composed music in all forms, ranging from symphonies to educational pieces for school use.
