In European churches this is also an Advent hymn, though I'm not certain that is also the case in Britain and America, but I thought to use it nevertheless.
I played it the way we sometimes do in our churches in Europe:
An introduction
Verse 1 sung
Verse 2 sung
Verse 3 sung
Verse 4 Organ playing a variation.
Verse 5 sung
Verse 6 sung
A postlude
The introduction and postudium are both by Gaël Liardon.
He did a fine fugue on the introduction.
The postludium has the melody in the bass.
The Verse 4 intermezzo is one movement of a partita byJohann Gottfried Walther.
