Prism, Opus 522

From the composer: "Prism (2003) for organ was written for and is dedicated to Robert Jan August.

The work is mystical in spirit and simple in concept and texture. After an opening introduction, the basic material is presented exclusively in perfect 5ths. This material is re-iterated then in a changed form using only perfect 4th. Then the 4ths material is presented in retrograde, followed by the 5ths material.

The work is contemplative and was conceived with the image of a prism in mind—very slowly turning in the light. The changes of color that are shown are subtle and slow moving. Dissonances are created and resolved."
