Description:
Michael Canales (b. 1963) — Majestic Postlude in F minor (2013) for organ

“Majestic Postlude in F minor” (2013) alludes to Wotan’s “spear” leitmotif from Wagner’s Ring Cycle and also to the Spanish harmonies that are a part of the composer’s vocabulary, drawing on his background as a classical guitarist.

Michael Canales (b. 1963) has received major grants from organizations such as the Ralph M. Parsons Foundation, Ann and Gordon Getty Foundation, and the Nevada Arts Council for his work as a composer and conductor. He has composed music in many genres including opera and symphonic works. As a conductor, Canales specializes in opera, and he has conducted the works of Mozart, Puccini, Verdi, and Wagner, as well as much other standard repertoire. He was the founder and director of Pasadena Lyric Opera for seven seasons. Canales is also an accomplished classical guitarist, as well as a pianist, organist, and percussionist.
