Ivan Moody (b. 1964) — Phos (1994) for organ
British composer Ivan Moody (b. 1964) was born in London and educated in music and theology at the Universities of London, Joensuu, and York, where he studied for Brian Dennis, John Tavener, and William Brooks. Since 1990, he has lived in Lisbon, Portugal. Moody’s music is heavily influenced by the Orthodox Church and Eastern liturgical chant, as well as by composers such as Pärt and Tavener who likewise took inspiration from those sources. Moody’s work has been performed and championed around the world by many ensembles, including the Hilliard Ensemble, the Tallis Scholars, and Chanticleer. He was ordained to the Orthodox priesthood in 2007 and is the chairman of the International Society for Orthodox Church Music.
