Some time ago it was All Souls, the day on which we remember the people who died in the last year. On the Costa Blanca we do that at the end of the litugical year, which is Sunday the 27th of november.
Aart Bergwerff (*1960), one of the finest of Dutch organists, composed fine choral prelude to the hymn we sing in Dutch churches on this occasion, one composed by Johann Herman Strategier: “Heer, herinner u the namen” (Lord, remember the names of them …)
Aart composed it in the French impressionist style befitting the melody and words of the hymn and I think he did a wonderful job, as did Strategier.
The recording is as follows:
Choral Prelude
Hymn in Strategiers' original setting
Ending, which I borrowed from Aarts' Choral Prelude.
