Description: | Continuing the theme of my previous 2 uploads, the third meditation provided by our churches was written by Rev. Peter Feenstra on Psalm 107:21: "Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind."
Psalm 107 reminds us that the place to start in our thanksgiving is not with what we have
received but with God himself. He is good and his kindness and steadfast love endures forever. Yes, the redeemed of God are encouraged to give thanks all the time and everywhere. What a powerful truth! The implications run deep. When I am faced with special difficulties, uncertainty, personal distress, crises, and anxiety, I am to give thanks to the Lord. He takes adversity and uses it to draw me closer to him and to deepen my trust in him. When I feel like I am at my wits’ end and, from my perspective, there is nothing positive to say about my entire experience, I can give thanks for his goodness and love.
This is a simple improvisation through which I hope to express my gratitude, and to "tell of his works with songs of joy" (verse 22).
Verses 21 and 22 are found in stanza 12 of the rhymed version in Book of Praise, Anglo-Genevan Psalter:
Let all then thank their Saviour
with shouts of joyful praise,
extol his love and favour,
shown in such wondrous ways.
Let them break out in song
within their congregation.
Let him be praised among
the elders of the nation.
