I thought it would be a nice project to finish learning all of Brahms Op.122 and record them. I'll be using the Engler organ of Krzeszow, which for me speaks well in these pieces. A little earlier than the obvious Brahms instruments but I think quite suitable given these pieces are surely a very deliberate homage to Bach, almost to the point of quotation in one or two instances.
Here is the first instalment, a setting of one of the best known chorale melodies. Noteworthy is the rather Schubert like use of the relative major to illustrate the temptations of death or the devil, followed by a very vivid 'descent into hell'. Afterwards Brahms resolves to plod on to the end in a grim but honest A minor.
