Charles Callahan (b. 1951) — A Christmas Prelude (2012) for organ
“A Christmas Prelude” (2012) is a simple and gentle setting of two beloved Christmas hymns: IN DULCI JUBILO (“Good Christian Friends, Rejoice!”) and CRANHAM (“In the Bleak Midwinter”).
American composer and organist Charles Callahan (b. 1951) has published hundreds of compositions for organ and choir that are widely performed throughout the world. He studied at the Curtis Institute of Music (the last student of Alexander McCurdy) and the Catholic University of America. He also studied with the Belgian organist-composer Flor Peeters. As a recitalist, Callahan is a particular specialist in romantic music and improvisation. He has written two reference books on American organ building and has been very active as an organ consultant for many major projects.
