Composer: Langlais, Jean
Sample Producer: Sonus Paradisi
Sample Set: Caen - St. Etienne Cavaillé Coll
Software: Hauptwerk IV
Genre: Modern
Description:
As a prelude to Christmas' quiet joys, one of Langlais' first compositions, from a set of "Trois poèmes évangéliques".
It is a kind of evocation in four descriptive pictures :
- La crèche (the manger), with the melody at the pedal on a reed ;
- Les anges (the angels), more animated, like wings flapping smoothly, on flutes 8' 2
- Les bergers (the shepherds), a Noël from Britanny on the swell hautbois
- La Sainte Famille (the Holy Family) : atmosphere of quietness. The shepherds's theme on the voix céleste, superposed to the initial theme on pedal flute 4'.
It reminds me of some medieval enluminures.
