Georg Böhm (1661-1733) was organist of the Johanniskirche in Lüneburg. To his students probably also belonged the young Johann Sebastian Bach, who joindes the local Latin school. Among the organ works of Böhm there are varied designed choral preludes.
In this beautiful six-part manualiter partita, all variations are composed in different styles with fast runs, embellishments and broken chords: The first choral movement is followed by five variations in three-part settings up to the final dance.
