“Petit livre pour Maud” (Little Book for Maud) (1981) is a set of short organ pieces inspired by scenes in a child’s day (or imagination). Dhaine wrote suites (of different scorings) for other children in his family. The original hand-written publication is illustrated with the composer’s pencil sketches of Maud partaking in the various activities. Dhaine’s music in this work is very simple in texture (approachable to a younger player), while also partaking of distinct contemporary style elements.
French composer Jean-Louis Dhaine (1949–2006) wrote music in many genres and published a number of chamber and solo works. He wrote music for a wide range of purposes: from educational pieces for beginning players to music for major orchestras.
