Christiaan Johannes Nobels (1938 - 2015) was organist of the Canadian Reformed Church in Brampton, Ontario for many years. I also had the pleasure of serving together with Christiaan as member of the 'Standing Committee for the Publication of the Book of Praise of the Canadian Reformed Churches' for a couple of years before his death in April 2015.
In 2014, he wrote a set of variations and a chorale setting for Genevan Psalm 81, "Sing a Psalm of Joy", which he dedicated to me. Needless to say, I was honoured by this very kind gesture on his part.
Since his passing away in 2015, I was further honoured to inherit his Content organ, which his family describes as his "pride and joy". I have since converted it into a Hauptwerk organ, and it has become my pride and joy now, too! I look forward to making music on this instrument for many years to come.
I hope you enjoy this simple but beautiful set of variations and chorale as much as I enjoy playing it!
