The Four Little Flowers of St. Francis (Quattro Fioretti di San Francesco) were commissioned from the Harvard University in 2017. The four musical paintings take inspiration from "Little Flowers of St. Francis" a florilegium divided into 53 short chapters, on the life of Saint Francis of Assisi that was composed at the end of the 14th century.
The second piece, "Fioretto XXII", (St. Francis and the birds – San Francesco addomestica le tortore selvatiche) is a descriptive poem with two different characters: the birds, described with rapid and virtuous passages, and St. Francis, described with a solemn and ieratic choral.
