Surprisingly, this little piece has not been uploaded before. I first heard it played by Diane Bish (MM 93). It is often heard in demo recordings to show off the flutes. I am very fond of the Smecno flutes so I used the Copula Major 8’ and the Copula Minor 4’.
This piece, commonly known as ‘Flute Solo’, is the Allegro from Sonata Nº 7, from 8 Sonatas or Lessons for the Harpsichord, London, 1756.
Thomas Augustine Arne (1710-1778) was an English composer, best known for the patriotic song 'Rule Britannia'. He also wrote a version of 'God Save the King', which became the British national anthem, and the song 'A-Hunting We Will Go'. Arne was the leading British theatre composer of the 18th century.
The score for the entire sonata is included below, courtesy of IMSLP.
