Ad Wammes (b. 1953) — Contemplations (2015) for organ
(in three movements)
“Contemplations” (2015) was written in memory of organist John Scott (1956–2015). As a recitalist, Scott had championed a number of Wammes’s works for organ.
Ad Wammes (b. 1953) is a Dutch composer. His eclectic musical background includes formal studies at the Utrecht and Rotterdam conservatories with leading Dutch composers (including Ton de Leeuw), years as the keyboardist in the rock group Finch, and composition of numerous works for concert, TV, and film. In the 1980s, he wrote the music for several Dutch “Sesame Street” albums, and composed many works for Dutch television. In the recent years, he has focused more on concert music, and his organ music has found particularly wide acclaim. His organ piece “Miroir” has quickly become one of the most played contemporary works for the instrument. The success of this work has been followed with many commissions from the world's leading organ performers.
