Description: | The great Festival of Passover begins today at sundown. "Adir hu" is the great, classical Passover hymn.
The "Adir Hu" tune has undergone several variations over the years, but the origin is from the German minnesinger period.
The text given here, is the one in common usage in the US, the English being only slightly modernized.
The custom is to sing one verse in Hebrew and three in English, but I've only done the three English verses here.
The introduction is played upon the Carillon as it is heard from INSIDE THE CHURCH. A number of people have asked about the "noise level" on the carillon upload that I did yesterday. The noise is heard because the volume is significantly increased to create the effect of hearing the bells OUTSIDE OF THE CHURCH.
God of Might, God of Right,
You we give all glory.
Yours all praise in these days
As in ages hoary,
When we hear, year by year,
Freedom's wondrous story.
Now as erst, when you first
Mads't the proclamation,
Warning loud every proud,
Every tyrant nation,
We Your fame still proclaim,
Serve in adoration.
Be with all who in thrall
To their tasks are driven;
By Your power speed the hour
When the chains are riven;
Earth around will resound
Joyful hymns to heaven!
I wish everyone a happy and blessed Pesach!
