Description: | Here we have the second piece, "to heaven - Nearer my God to Thee", composed by our member, Dominik Kruppa (orchestralmusic) that I have been pleased to record and upload!
This ethereal setting uses the tune "Bethany" by Lowell Mason (1792-1872) as the tune of this prelude.
The tune is atmospheric and hypnotic, almost like an early-American hymn, in the skillful use of a small harmonic palette and it's sparseness of texture.
I chose the organ of the Esztergom Basilica for this performance, as I think the "unreal" acoustical environment, blends with and "washes all edges" off of the music, allowing it float in a timeless space...
I hope that you will enjoy this, and if you do, I ask you to thank and congratulate Dominik on his fine work.
The score is attached.
(Please see the next upload dealing with a variety of hymn tunes that may have been played as the last piece aboard the RMS Titanic, just before it sank on April 15, 1912.) |
