Composer: Mohrheim, Friedrich Christian Samuel
Sample Producer: OrganArt Media
Sample Set: 1687 Arp Schnitger, Steinkirchen, Germany
Software: Hauptwerk IV
Genre: Baroque
Description:
Just as the fifth, the sixth Trio by Mohrheim is not a real Trio at all. It is actually a four voice piece, based on the well known melody of the chorale “Wer nur den lieben Gott läßt walten”. This chorale was written in 1641 by Georg Neumark, who wrote both the text and the melody. In the years since then more than 20 other melodies were written to sing the text on. Conversely, the original melody was used for a lot of other texts. As such it has become one of the most important melodies in the protestant church.
And this in turn has led to an enormous body of chorale preludes for organ based on this melody. This Trio by Mohrheim is just one of comparable works by Bach (of course), Kauffmann, Kittel, Krebs, Walther, kirnberger, Sorge, Armsdorf, Böhm, Kuhnau, Ritter, Forchheim, Dienel, Kehl, Schmoll, Oechsler, Reichardt, etc, etc.

Perhaps I should start a new series with preludes based on just this melody.

But first the Trio by Mohrheim. Score available here:
