Composer: Dandrieu, Jean-François
Sample Producer: Sonus Paradisi
Sample Set: St. Omer, Cavaillé-Coll 1855
Software: Hauptwerk IV
Genre: Baroque
Description:
Four small nice pieces by Dandrieu, which demonstrate the exceptional craftmanship of Cavaille-Coll in the restoration and enlargement of the St. Omer organ.

I play them from the edition Guilmant from the beginning of the 20th century.
I guess he could not classify these pieces under a common titile.

Originally built by brothers Thomas and Jean-Jacques Desfontaines in 1717, Cavaille-Coll highly praised the quality of the St . Omer organ when inspecting it in 1852. He proposed "to bring this organ back the first position it occupied among the instruments of its century."

And he did, with full respect to the original sounds of the organ and expanding on that.
So you can play old French music on it as well as more romantic and modern stuff.

The reed stops used in these pieces ARE by Cavaille-Coll, but inspired by the sounds of the French builders of the Baroque era.

Really a rare treat!
