“Fünf Orgelstücke” (2010) were originally composed for an organ tuned in a mean-tone temperament. The five pieces employ a contemporary-inflected look at early styles.

German composer Volker Hahn (b. 1940) was educated at the Dresden Academy of Music and the Academy of Arts in Berlin, from which he earned his PhD in 1987. He was on the faculty of the Dresden Academy of Music from 1992–2005 and served as Chairman of the Department of Composition of Music Theory and later Dean of the Academy for Composition. He addition to orchestra and chamber music, he has written many works for voice including songs, cantatas, motets, and folk-song settings.
