Douglas Bell (b. 1932) — Snetzler in Halifax (2014–15) for organ

1. Trump for Leonard
2. Lament
3. J.W.’s Lavolta
4. A Verse for Jean
5. Jubilate for John

“Snetzler in Halifax” (2014–15) is a set of five pieces written in celebration of Halifax Minster’s acquisition of a 1770 Snetzler organ. These pieces were written for performance on the church’s large Harrison organ. “Trump for Leonard” refers to John Snetzler’s brother, builder of the organ case. “J.W.’s Lavolta” refers to John Waterhouse (1736–1801) of Well Head, Halifax for whom the Snetzler organ was original built. “A Verse for Jean” was written in memory of the composer’s sister (1928–2014). “Jubilate for John” is a very English salute to John Snetzler himself.

English composer Douglas Bell served as organist of St. Bartholomew’s Church, Marsden, near Huddersfield, England from 1955 until 2003. He was a student of Francis Jackson and holds a Fellowship certificate from the Royal College of Organists. Bell has composed and published many organ works. In addition to his musical pursuits, Bell played professional cricket for the teams of Huddersfield, Marsden, and Elland.
