Luca Massaglia (

After being taught music by Vatroslav Kolander, Franjo Dugan studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin with Robert Kahn and Max Bruch. After his graduation, in 1908, he returned to Croatia, where he first teached in Osijek and then at the Music Academy in Zagreb (music theory, composition and organ) from 1921 to 1941.
Essentially a late romantic, somewhat conservative, Dugan often drew inspiration from Croatian folk music.
Relying on the principles of the great Baroque polyphonic composers, in his organ works he gave a very valuable contribution to Croatian organ music.
Franjo Dugan was organist of the great organ of Zagreb Cathedral, in succession to his first teacher Vatroslav Kolander.
Franjo Dugan also held the position of organist at St. Mark's church in the same town.
