How many users will migrate to Hauptwerk 5.0?

I created a small survey in Facebook, to understand how Hauptwerk users are moving towards this chat 5.0 update.

Voters: 127 users

I don't upgrade to Hauptwerk 5.0 and stay with Hauptwerk 4.2: 55 Voters
I have already upgraded to version 5.0 or will do it soon: 46 Voters
I still don't know what I will do, I wait a few weeks before making a decision: 18 Voters
Concerned about customer service: 18 Voters

By absorbing the last item in the "undecided" we have a "pie" divided like this:

I don't upgrade to Hauptwerk 5.0 and stay with Hauptwerk 4.2: 43.3%
I have already upgraded to version 5.0 or will do it soon: 36.2%
I still don't know what I will do, I wait a few weeks before making a decision: 20.5%

Personally, I don't think it's a happy situation for the new version ...

Hello Anto800
I don't have any facebook account, but please, you can add my voice to the "I don't upgrade to Hauptwerk 5.0 and stay with Hauptwerk 4.2"
HW 5 is too expensive, and it wont make me a better musician.

RE: How many users will migrate to Hauptwerk 5.0?

The price for me was on $199 because I already have a 4.2 advanced license. I will try it, although probably not until the Christmas holidays roll in.

There does seem to be a lot of vitriol floating around at that moment, and I'm not sure that all of it is justified. Time will tell.

RE: How many users will migrate to Hauptwerk 5.0?

Thanks Anto800 -

This topic is logically the next thing we need to talk about here. Initially, Milan had set the date for "discounted upgrade from HW4" on December 13. By the time the website was renewed, it became December 16. But the outcry from its customer base (on the HW Forum, haven't seen what happened on Facebook) was so substantial that the date was further extended to now be Jan 6, 2020.

For many folks that 6 January date is still a nonsense connected to the frantic December days - in Australia, where I am, "Christmas" (because it's mid-summer here) for most people means "make sure the car is packed", and take off with family and kids before the Christmas traffic rush begins on Dec 23. And "we'll see you when we get back in the last week of January". So within that context an intro period should not end at all before the end of January or the beginning of February.

I'm in the category "won't update - with 95% confidence" to "maybe, but probably not for another 6-12 months" The answer to my quetion "why would I do that???" will be clearer after the huge cloud of dust has settled.

My decision-making is guided, on a daily basis, more confidently and more stubbornly in the direction of "no update, not now, not ever", because every day is "A Day That Brett Milan Does NOT Do The Job He's Meant To Do For Me" - - - - i.e. a day where I finally receive the HW4 Dongle Update for me MIDWOLDA sampleset.

The measure of "trusting Milan" has become an issue of them NOT providing timely Dongle Updates, or perhaps, NEVER providing my Dongle Update for HW4. If I can't trust them on helping me with HW4, why would I ever trust them with HW5 ???

It's not my intention to start an argument here too. But are your facebook posters aware they will not be able to load new/used hw4 encrypted samples into their version of HW in a few weeks?

In short, there really is no choice. All users will be forced to upgrade to ver 5 unless they have no intention of adding/playing additional sets in HW.

If they are concerned about this, then they should speak up (probably more respectfully than I have) in the hauptwerk forum where their voice can be heard.

According to french law ( articles R635-2 du Code pénal et L122-3 du Code de la consommation) this agressive marketing from MDA is similar to "forced sale".... and it's clearly illegal.

Interesting point!

A second issue - the fact that HW4 users will see their encrypted samplesets devalued, because, even while they have "ownership in perpetuity", also for resale to others, will be unable to sell them to others with the establishment of HW5.

It makes me think: will there be a court case - and will similar principles apply under US Law (where Milan resides)?

RE: How many users will migrate to Hauptwerk 5.0?

Milan just sent me an email, declaring that my account has been processed and that I'm now able to log in to the HW Forum.

HOW FABULOUS!!! (read: extreme cynicism...). They processed my Forum registration - EIGHT MONTHS AFTER I ASKED FOR IT.

Is Milan noticing how many people are MIA in their HW5 Sales Push???

Note: it's unlikely that I'll do more than reading posts on the Forum.

I may just have a joke in a couple of weeks' time: repeated postings about Milan NOT sending me a HW Dongle update - and repeated postings outlining problems with HW4 (like audio routing etc and making the VST host work with my audio interface and the Presonus software.

We need further investigations. Perhaps tomorrow I'll try to find something more in european laws (I've found a long text in french, but too long to translate, will try to resume it if something interresting).
American law has certainly remained some similar cases.... just need time to find them.
I didn't know until now, that "forced sale" exists, ... another point op disapointment.
